down with this sort of thing

Well chaps, the plan for the ascent of the mighty Mount Bogong this weekend has been scuppered. So no Bogong moths or vicious snow drop bears for me. Instead perhaps a jaunt through the mud on my mountain bike, and a day trip to the snow, should it happen to fall. I’ll leave you with the picture of a pretty graph I made at work.

(I made it smaller than usual out of consideration to readers who might be scared by physicsy things, and numbers in general, if you really want to see what it looks like, feel free to click on it, although you’ll find it’s not very exciting, even if it does involve several different colours)

and it’s only april!

Went out to play in the snow today :)

There was a slight change of plans after realising the weather would be horrible for sea kayaking, and that there would in all likelihood be a reasonable amount of snow at Mount Baw Baw. We like the snow.

However, I would have preferred a late season this year, so I could theoretically get my thesis written and then go off and play in the last of the snow. I suppose 1) The season could still end up finishing late, or 2) The snow running out could encourage me to magically get my thesis written sooner (hah!)

not alone in the birdcage anymore

It looks like they’re getting a second PhD student in at work – she’ll be sitting on the desk next to me. Being the only female in a section full of male engineers who all have a good 15 years on me… well, I feel a bit like I’m the pet bird they got on a whim. And they’ve since realised it’s a bit lonely, so they’ve decided to get a second bird to keep it company. I hope they don’t take away my toys and my mirror.

thesising

Getting into my thesis again:

As described above, two vertical layering definitions are used for regression-based prediction of convolved layer-to-space transmittances: levels of fixed pressure or levels of fixed absorber overburden.

and my brain is hurting… although I am fired with the nutritional value of the kangaroo balls I ate last night :)
