both of the boys are downstairs, hard at work on their boats. they’re both building wooden sea kayaks – one of the kayaks is getting towards the stages of being finished, and actually looks like a boat. the other is still individual bits of plywood strewn across the garage. the whine of the saw is sounding intermittently, as more bits of plywood succumb. meanwhile, it’s 37oC here, and not really the sort of weather i’d choose for doing that sort of thing.
spent the weekend at arapiles. we didn’t get a whole lot done. wandering up a climb on dunes buttress on sunday, we managed to spend at least an hour sleeping on one of the belay stations, watching the hoards streaming up missing link, with none of us feeling particularly motivated to do the final pitch of our own climb. in the end i was convinced to do it, on the grounds that i’d been climbing the longest – despite my defence that it was someone elses turn, as i’d just led the last pitch (just being probably an hour ago by the time we got around to moving again) . and my convincing arguments that corey should do it because he was stronger, or that maria should do it, because she’d led the first pitch. all of this over 25 metres of grade 12, mmm, sweet summer apathy.
a few photos from the trip …

trekking in tasmania
the tassie trip: 12th dec to 23rd dec. 8 days hiking in south west tasmania, across the western arthurs.
twisted trees on the wind blown moor before mt hesperus
hectic times – a couple of weeks in tasmania, and then christmas craziness.
the tidal waves that have been landing through south-east asia hit tonsai beach as well – thankfully none of the people i know who are climbing there at the moment were hurt (or drowned). the wave wasn’t so bad there – i hope everyone out there managed to escape serious harm. my flatmate was up on the beachside cliffs watching the whole thing unfold.
