but why are there so many pigeons?

The roof of my neighbours house is a nice place to sit in the sun when I need a break from work. I found this out while I was lamenting the fact that the sun had gone away, so my east-facing window was letting in nothing but views over corrugated iron and hills-hoist suburbia, and the smell of fermenting yeast from the brewery. Deciding I needed a break in the sun, I stuck my head out of the window, and discovered there was a nice patch of light just around the corner. Socks off, I hopped out my window, swung around onto their roof, and enjoyed some time sitting in the warmth of the sunlight with my eyes closed. Now all I need is an extension cord, and I could sit out there and type to my hearts content. As long as nobody got suspicious.

too sunny for snow

Another nice day at the snow at Lake Mountain – it was much sunnier this time, t-shirt skiing weather. The hoards were out though. Thankfully we arrived early, and stayed out the back. Then after the snow turned to slush, we went and hiked up Mt St Leonard. Then I found some blossoms. Then I went home. The end.

Edit – And I just realised that Gary McDonald is in Mouline Rouge. I’ll have to assume I never realised it was him before because I was too used to thinking of him as Arthur.

van pimpin’ 103

In their great wisdom, some of my beloved benefactors have bestowed upon me a beautiful bounty. Behold – a fluffy di fit for a king. From Las Vegas nontheless, so the king in question may well be Elvis himself.

the snow fairy

I closed my eyes tight, and wished very hard, and the snow fairy came. And brought enough snow to ski on. At least he’s trying.

(Yes, in this case when I say ski I mean cross-country skiing. It was a pleasant way to spend a morning, although my skating muscles were burning most of the way around)

yes, we have no bananas

More on food, again. This time I’ve been pondering bananas. It’s been months since I’ve had one. And oh how I miss them. But good old Cyclone Larry wiped out 80 percent of Australia’s banana crop in March, and we don’t go importing bananas, as they may be diseased. Meanwhile, the bananas that are around are costing more than 500 percent more than they used to. Meaning prices up around $12-$15/kilogram, rather than $2-$3/kilogram. So these days, a banana can cost you three dollars. They’re only for the rich people. Something or other is on the horizon though, apparently bananas are going to start reappearing in mid-September, and banana availability and prices will be back to normal by December-January. I think I might hold a party.
