West Virginia reminds me of Tasmania – an interesting mix of conservationist hippies, and redneck conservatives. Lots of snow around – four hours drive out to Whitegrass from DC, and there was snow the whole way. Camped in the snow both Friday and Saturday; there was consistent cover, but not much of a base, so in places it was just fluffy powder disguising clumps of rocks and bushes underneath. And I’ve now remembered all about those skiing muscles that I only use at that time of year.

Nearly down now, but facing issues…
I found an Australian flag!
There was supposed to be another big dump of snow in DC today – 6 to 10 inches. It spent most of the morning snowing, but not reaching the ground, due to the dry air. By the time it finally got around to building up on the ground, it was never going to make 10 inches. Mind you, it’s still going now, so there’ll be a fair bit of it around by tomorrow.
Russell the Peak Bagging Moose has also had a bit to say about the Whitegrass trip here.
