things i learnt

Places that are not good to leave your camera: The top of the Pharos, at Arapiles, where you can only get to it by roping up and climbing back up to it. Do not leave your camera by the rap station, then realise you don’t have it any more once you are at the bottom. It is TOO LATE to go back and get it. This is especially a bad idea when it proceeds to rain for the next 24 hours.

NOTE – This story ended well however, and is not another in the ‘Reasons I Should Not Own A Camera’ vein. The camera was rescued and is in full health.

playing with the new camera

Now I just have to work out the easiest way to cut this up and turn it into an animated gif…

deadpoint

(The photo was taken at Cooper’s Rocks, West Virginia)

“Gah! They’re pointing a machine gun at us!”
“How rude, pretend we haven’t seen them.”

as promised…

The triumphant arrival of my new camera.

It appears to take photos, which is what I was hoping for, so I’m rather pleased.

Getting it home was interesting. I cycled back from Fedex in torrential rain: visibility was low, thunder and lightning overhead, I was completely saturated, and not getting any drier as I pedalled through inches of water, with vehicles driving past throwing even more sheets of water at me. I had trouble keeping my eyes open in the rain; by the time I got home they were thoroughly bloodshot. The camera stayed dry though.

i’m a tree

Scenes from climbing at Seneca the other weekend, after I had dropped my camera. This is us cooling down in the swimming hole/river (I’m wearing a cowboy hat, Boer’s holding his camera).

COMING UP NEXT – The much-anticipated arrival of my brand new camera.

doggies

And the reason why the police dog was outside my window, sniffing a tree, was because he was on his way to the Doggie Happy Hour held at the hotel down the road. Yes, that’s right, I live in the middle of a yuppy enclave. Everyone here owns a dog. You can’t wander outside morning or evening without fighting through swathes of residents out walking their dogs – during the day you’re more likely to come across the professional dog walkers. Shops have bowls of water out the front, the local jogging paths have water bowls built into their bubblers. Dogs of all shapes and sizes, heaven forbid you should have the same breed of dog as your neighbour.

Camera update: Sony H1 ordered and on it’s way apparently.
