It was my first time out on the Cascade Fire Trail, and so I was unpleasantly alarmed when the trail kept going uphill. And more uphill. And even more uphill. Thankfully the relentless climbing eased off to a more reasonable rolling terrain. And I discovered that I wasn’t as fit as I’d hoped – even towing the Chariot, all the classical skiing I’ve been doing isn’t as much exercise as skate-skiing.<\/p>\n

We were around 6km out when the temperature started dropping, and so ended up turning back instead of skiing to the end. Although skiing to the end was always going to be a bit unlikely, given our lazy late start. Perhaps another day we’ll make it to the end. (And yes, the Moosling came too)<\/p>\n
