{"id":313,"date":"2005-11-08T22:44:49","date_gmt":"2005-11-08T12:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=313"},"modified":"2008-12-07T15:57:22","modified_gmt":"2008-12-07T21:57:22","slug":"things-in-the-usa-which-are-different-but-about-which-i-have-no-strong-feelings-one-way-or-another-part-2-in-a-3-part-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evilmoose.me\/?p=313","title":{"rendered":"things in the usa which are different, but about which i have no strong feelings one way or another (part 2 in a 3 part series)"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<p>All petrol stations seem to have the pay stations at the pump, so you don&#8217;t have to go inside to pay<br \/>\nPeople keep saying &#8216;excuse me&#8217; just to signify they&#8217;re walking past you (which kept making me jump until I got used to it)<br \/>\nPeople have a greater tendency to be loud and excessively enthusiastic about things<br \/>\nFlags everywhere &#8211; not just USA flags, but flags for St. Patricks day, flags for Valentines Day, and so on<br \/>\nLots of parades, filled with marching bands and cheerleaders<br \/>\nPeople being excessively excited about college sports (and as a result, universities having enormous football stadiums)<br \/>\nTraffic being on the other side of the road &#8211; sounds obvious, but it makes crossing the street far more interesting, and also means keeping to the right side of the pavement<br \/>\nEveryone uses tumble dryers<br \/>\nNeeding a card for the store to be able to get grocery store specials<br \/>\nPeople ignoring the speed limit on freeways (no fixed speed cameras, as they&#8217;d infringe on peoples civil liberties)<br \/>\nMiles\/pounds\/fahrenheit<br \/>\nSultanas are on the shelves as currants<br \/>\nPlain flour is all purpose flour<br \/>\nChoc bits are semi sweet morsels<br \/>\nPetrol is called gas.  So is gas.<br \/>\nToilet paper is labelled &#8216;bathroom tissue&#8217;<br \/>\nRubbish is trash<br \/>\nCrisps are called chips, which is fair enough<br \/>\nBut chips are called french fries!
